ignition wires ,cap ,rotor ,and or plugs. Timing can cause this too but unless its been altered it is not likely your problem. Incorrect firing order can also cause this but again unless the wires have been switched its not likely your problem. Focus on plugs and wires. If plugs are badly fouled - Replace . Be sure to identify the reason for fouling - Choke, wires, air filter ect

It also possible to have a bent pushrod, causing one of the exhaust valves to not open.
probably a bad spark, itll cause your engine to misfire flooding petrol in without igniting it, when it sparks afterwards it ignites causing a bang and backfire.
Does it backfire? Check timing. as well as Check that which controls the idle. Does it backfire when you try to start it after it dies? check the computer for coades and check all vavume lines and wire conections Control module and coil are the common ones.

Is the 4 cylinder engine on a 1987 Camry noninterference?" Is the 4 cylinder engine on a 1987 Camry noninterference?"
This engine does not have a timing belt, it is gear-driven. Possibly, you have broken gear teeth, causing the timing to be out of order.
# Emissions system not functioning properly # Fault in the fuel or electrical system # Ignition timing incorrect
There are just too many of the one or two of the devices on the car that would be causing this. Go to a tune-up shop.
You acces the oil filter on the 4cylinder engine through the passenger side front wheel well. There should be an acess area for you to go through.
You can fit a 1.8 liter engine into your 1987 Acura Integra. You will need to modify the engine mounts and the wiring harness.
