The fan is located under the dash on the passenger side. You do not have to remove the dash. Access the fan by removing the panel on the bottom of the dash (just above the passenger's feet), held up by two or three screws. The fan assembly (motor and squirrel cage fan) is held in place by four (if I remember) small bolts up on the underside of the dash, which is a little awkward to get to. Remove the bolts and the assembly will drop down. Disconnect the electrical plug (a catch must be released with a small screwdriver) to remove the assembly. Replacement is reverse of this procedure.
The blower fan on a cayenne is under the dash on the right hand side. It can be accessed by removing the panel on the underside of the dash in the passenger foot well.
