im not sure its gas you smell. it could be but there is an extremely small chance of it being gas. fuel would have to be leaking into the air duct system some how and the two are not in any way connected. the air going into the cabin is completely separate from the air going into the engine. most likely its coolant. the heater core uses hot coolant from the engine to create heat if its leaking you'll smell it. other than a rotten smell from the ac that's about the only smell that would be in that system from the car itself. and that's caused by a dirty evaporator.

Maybe the heater core is leaking.
were is fuse for the cluster on a 2001 kia spectra
More than likely the heater core is leaking.
The Ford Taurus is famous for having leaking heater core. It is located on the passenger side inside the passenger compartment and inside the dashboard. It costs about $1000 to get a mechanic to fix it.
The heater coil probably has a leak causing steam and vaporized antifreeze to be released into the vents. Is it using coolant?
i believe the heater core is leaking, a small pin hole leak can generate a lot of smell.
coolant smell/leakyes more than likely that's your prob. but could be maybe a hose.
Doesn't matter what type of vehicle, this indicates an exhaust leak and an oil leak. The burnt oil and the exhaust, get pulled into the cowl which is where the air for the interior comes from! Not very healthy...
I need to find on a service manual for a 2001 kia spectra. Or at least find a diagram of the fuse boxes in a 2001 kia specta.
in the overflow tank
check the drain line on the a/c or does it have antifreeze smell to it then it could be the heater core
