Nothing. Dealers do it free if you are buying a car, or are interested in a car. But they won't run a Carfax on a vehicle you already own just for your own use to see the car's history. If you want a Carfax for your car go to the Carfax site and it costs $40

Let me add... I did a test of CarFax and I think you can use it but don't trust it! I had a car that was in a major accident and fully repaired by the dealer (factory authorized dealer) and about three years after that I paid for a Carfax Report, for that specific VIN number, and the results said zero REPORTED problems. There was over $7,000 of extensive repairs done to that vehicle. So don't trust it as the final determining factor. Even the advertisement says..."As reported to Carfax..."

There's no fun in playing it safe. Why not try something a little unhinged?
