Actually, it's a journey I often make. From the by-pass at the south edge of Edinburgh, go straight down the A1. Even within the speed limits, you will normally pass Newcastle in well under 2 hours: from there, York is maybe another hour, perhaps 70 minutes, still travelling south on the A1 until you tuen of (and follow) the A59 into York
Edinburgh to Melrose takes around 1 hour to drive.
From Edinburgh to Dundee is about 60 miles, and would take about 1½ hours to drive.
Edinburgh to York is roughly 2h 30m. Edinburgh Park to York is roughly 3h.
One problem, theres a bloody great big expanse of water in the way. York, England you idiot, not New York, and why is it necessary to swear?
