My grandparents tried to drive from New York to Florida and it was horrible they said. It took so long, that they felt like falling asleep so they had to pull over and rest. It isn't wise to drive there alone, but if you are going with someone then maybe that's better. Personally I feel that taking a bus or plane is wiser.
It is about 22 miles from Orlando to Kissimmee. This would take about 30 minutes on average to drive, two hours by bus, and six hours to walk. It also depends on which areas specifically you're going from Orlando to Kissimmee, because that could affect the mileage and driving times.

If, by middle of Orlando, you mean downtown, it is about a 20 minute drive (assuming traffic) from Seaworld, taking the 528 Westbound to I4 Eastbound. Downtown is east of SeaWorld. However, please note that there are no touristy things to do downtown. Alternatively, if you mean the International Drive area as the middle of Orlando, it's about 10-15 minutes, depending where on I drive you are going. SeaWorld is just off I-Drive, but is at the south end. Restaurants and hotels are more in the middle of I Drive, towards Universal.
