∙ 14y agoIt takes about three and a half hours to fly from Perth to Melbourne, but the flight from Melbourne to Perth is about 4 hours because of the direction of prevailing winds. Four hours and fifteen minutes. Perth is two hours behind Melbourne, so if you left Melbourne at 12 noon you would get to Perth at 2.15 pm.
It would take a minimum of 60-64 hours of non-stoptravelling. From Perth to Brisbane via Melbourne and Sydney is a distance of just over 5200km. Therefore, it is a trip best spread over at least 7 days, allowing for close to nine hours' of travel a day.
Melbourne to Perth is approximately 3,500 km and Melbourne to Brisbane is approximately 1,700 km both by way of driving, although the time difference is not that much apart (about 20 hours for Brisbane, a day and a half for Perth) as the traffic towards Brisbane goes through many populated areas, whereas the road to Perth has a vast desert to cross.
At this stage it takes about 7 hours because you have to travel via Perth. When Skywest gets its Melbourne to Geraldton route up and flying the time will be significantly shorter, but I have no idea when that will happen. It has been announced, though.
