Most probable cause is the drive cable between gearbox and speedo has broken.

No, it is all electronic. A sensor, with a driven gear will be attached to the gearbox, this will send a signal via wires to the clocks.
all you have to do is unscrew the cable from the top of your transmission, then from behind tbe actuall speedo
Pull the speedo and gauge package out of dash. Unhook wiring. Remove speedo cable from speedometer. Pull speedo cable out of housing, lube it lightly and re-insert. you can buy a tool made for lubricating cables, at a motorcycle shop then u need to disconnect the cable from back of speedo, use the tool and lubricant then reintall cable to speedo usually tho if a speedo cable gets noisy it is worn out and about to break
