If you have a timing light,

on the harmonic balancer there should be a groove or mark, mark this groove with white chalk or a paint marker. There should be a timing tab that looks like a little saw with teeth. For a Chevy 350 the timing is usually 4 before dead center or on dead center. You must disconnect the brown wire with a black stripe coming from the firewall, this wire is a connection from the vehicles computer to the distributer. upon removal, connect the timing light to the positive and negetive terminals on the battery, and connect the spark clamp to the veichles number one plug wire. start the veichle and let ot warm up, be sure to keep wires clear from fan. Once the veichle is warm shine the timing light at the harmonic balancer and, by twisting the distributer, alighn the white stripe that you have made with the desired degree on the timing tab. once you have done this you must shut off the veichle and reconnect the timing wire, the wire brown with black stripe. Restart the veichle and it should be properly timed.
