shift lock mechanism probably gunked up, can you hear it clicking when you step on brake? Try spraying shift lock solenoid with wd-40 or if that doesn't work try sticking pencil or similar object in hole to left of shifter to bypass solenoid. (hole may have a plug blocking it)

The shift lock on the solenoid is located under the shift lever cover. When the brake is depressed it then unlocks the shifter of the vehicle. If this does not unlock the solenoid then it will need to be replaced.

If the pathfinder is a model with a park lock, then pump the brakes and listen for the shift solenoid to click. The solenoid is under the plastic cover around the shifter, and has probably gone bad.
If everything works correctly, you should be able to push the brake with your foot, then push the button on the shifter and move to the according gear. If the vehicle will still not shift out of park, a brake light switch or shift lock solenoid is most likely the problem. Where is the brake light switch and shift lock solenoid located? it is just underneath the console to the right, there is also a little cap next to the shifter stick a screw driver in there and push the shift-lock solenoid forward, or choice number 2 is to take the console out and unplug the shift-lock
