YES, They are the same engines. That would be a direct bolt in.
Bad engine coolant sensor. Bad fuel injector. Plugged air filter.
If youre lucky it would probably be a plugged fuel/air filter or perhaps a pinched off fuel hose. if youre unlucky its something bad
It might. But what a mistake if it does. If you like your truck and want your engine to last you better put an A/C DELCO factory oil filter on it. If it wasn't the best for it GM. would have used something else.
The engine coolant temp sensor can do that. If you have a check engine light on, have the codes read.

The firewall would be the metal wall between the engine compartment and the passenger compartment.
You would find it in the front of the engine driven by the accessory belt.
The oil filter on a 1987 Chevy S10 truck is located on the bottom, right side of the engine. It is positioned on its side to allow for easy removal and replacement. If the S10 truck is a 4+4 with the 4.3 engine, the engine oil filter would be accessed from the top, under the hood in the drivers side front corner of the engine compartment.
Be sure you are installing the correct oil filter for that engine.
