It sounds like you have a belt that slips when you take off. This will cause a high pitched squeal.
A belt that is too tight will cause a squeal on a Kia Sportage. To resolve this issues just loosen the tension on the belt.
Check fan belt tension.
Most likely a belt is slipping.
loose alternator belt
it could be your pulley that keeps tension on your belt or it could be a belt
the belt will squeal at start up. most cars have a serpentine belt (only 1 belt ) which also has a belt tension er to keep the proper ten. on the belt at all times. there is no tightening required. if belt is loose replace the tension er
Very often it is not the alternator, but the belt that squeals. This can be checked by rubbing a little soap on the belt, if the squeal goes away, you know it's the belt. The belt may squeal for a number of reasons: the belt is new, the belt is old, the belt tension is too tight or loose, the belt is cold (the squeal goes away on it's own when it warms up). Some belts just squeal for no discernable reason, but there are 'belt dressing' sprays available for sale that sometimes help. Always check the belt before spending a bunch of money on a new alternator that may not be needed.
Incorrect tension, or contamination. A bad bearing in the alternator, A/C compressor, etc will cause excessive stress on the belt, and it will squeal as is slides over the stiff parts. Also, serpentine belts are very sensitive to grease or oil. DO NOT use traditional V-belt dressing on a serpentine belt. The least it will do is squeal. At worst, it will pop off while the engine is running and you're under the hood looking at something. They have quite the bite when they let go.
If the drive belt is squealing, then one of two things is wrong. Either the belt is loose or it is worn out. Adjust the belt tension or replace the belt.
You may need to adjust the tension on the belt.
Check the belt on your alternator. If it is not tight enough it will squeal on a Rodeo. Be sure to get it checked soon or your belt could fall off or burn up your alternator and then you are stuck!!
