What does the fuel reset button on a 2001 Ford Expedition do?
The fuel pump shut off ( inertia ) switch is a safety device
that " breaks " the circuit
to the electric fuel pump so that no power flows to the electric
fuel pump if your
vehicle has received a substantial jolt from being in a
collision or perhaps hitting a
really bad pothole . When the switch is tripped the fuel reset
light is supposed to
come on in your gauge cluster , indicating that the switch needs
to be manually reset
- If the fuel reset light comes on , check for any gas leaks or
the smell of gas
- if none , push the reset button on the switch and then turn
the ignition key to the RUN position for a few seconds , and then
turn the ignition key to the OFF position
- check for any gas leaks or the smell of gas again
- if none , go ahead and start the engine
