The first and easiest thing to check is going to be the Water Temperature Sensor or Sending Unit located on the block, usually by the thermostat housing. If you remove the sensor, place an Ohmmeter on the output leads and then warm in up in hot water. Your resistance should change as the temperature rises. If the sensor reads 'open' or doesn't change, replace the sensor. Otherwise, your problem lies in under the dash.

That won't work..there's only one lead going to the sending unit. You can clamp one ohmmeter lead to the threaded terminal but to check resistance where do you put the other meter lead? Best bet is to purchase a new sending unit form the dealer. They're only about $15.00 and will take about 15 minutes to change. The sending unit is located to the right on the lower intake manifold, just next to the distributor...

Where are the locations at to hook up aftermarket gauges on a 2000 Grand Prix GTP oil boost oil temp and water temp?

Your oil temperature gauge will connect to the oil pressure sensor. The water temperature gauge will hook up to the water temperature sensor. The oil pressure sensor will be on the left-hand side of the engine and the water temperature sensor will be on the front of the engine.

Will a thermostat make a temp gage not move on a s10?

Thermostat is the part which functions to maintain engine coolant temperature by restricting the flow ( open and close based on the coolant temperature ) to the heat exchanger ( radiator). Water temperature sender ( water temperature transducer ) is the one which signals the the water temperature gauge. so water temperature sender may not work and show the same value on the gauge. but engine temperature will rise and vary depending on the load. the engine will be cold when you start the engine after an overnight and if you touch some safe parts of the engine you will feel the temperature rise even if the gauge does not indicate it. hope this will help you. thank you.

How does a water gauge works?

A water gauge works by measuring the pressure of water within a system, which is typically displayed on a dial or gauge. This pressure reading reflects the level of water in the system and helps users monitor water flow or detect any abnormalities. The gauge operates on the principle that water pressure increases as the water level rises and decreases as the water level falls.
