Sound to me like it is the Power Steering pump. It will make a high pitched noise like you are describing and will get worse when you put more load on it by turning corners.

It happened in my case as well. I checked with a mechanic and he says it's because of oil leak in the head gasket. I have scheduled a check and I hope he will fix it. He says it will cost me below $50 including his labor charge. He is a lot cheaper than the regular firestone or lube centers.
