I had the same problem with a 1992 4 runner, i though it was the clutch kit, so i replaced it, but when i was done installing the tranny back on i realized that it was the clutch pedal, so check the pedal's height it should be the same as the brake pedal, if its lower check the bracket where the brake and clutch pedal are attached it might be broken, that might be your problem
with modifications and a mounting kit, and a way to convert cable clutch pedal to operate the hydraulic clutch transmissionhasport.com
I replaced my clutch for about 114.00 but i get a discount. list price is probably around 150 or 175 for oem clutch kit.
you have to remove the engine (some people will drop it some people will lift it, it depends on the tools you have) then separate the engine and the transmission; replace the clutch(try to get a clutch kit so you can replaced the pressure plate as well) replace/machine flywheel as needed. then put back together, and place the drive train back into the car.
One needs a clutch kit once he or she notices that the clutch is slipping. It is better to change it than be stuck in the middle of the road with a faulty clutch.
There is no adjusting these clutches. It uses a hydraulic system to push on the clutch. If you are having problems either there is a problem with the clutch assembly. Its worn out and slipping. Or the clutch slave or master cylinder is leaking, either internally or externally and its not pushing the clutch. If somthing is wrong with the clutch then you might as well buy a kit and replace everything as long as you are going to have the transmission out.The slave and master cylinders should also be replaced with a complete kit. It also saves on not having to bleed the system since the kit is fully assembled and has fluid in it already.
Go to the transmission and check slave cylinder for leaks, also check clutch master cylinder, then go look by your clutch pedal to see if its leaking there, these are your places that it could be leaking,is your fluid level low,if not ,then you may need a new clutch kit.
Did you check the Clutch fluid? It could be next to the Brake Fluid container. They should look similar but the Clutch container should be slightly smaller. Check your manual, I think my old Turbo TBird, I had to lift the clutch pedal to make up for wear. Is your clutch worn out? How old is it? You say MAYBE a Hydralic clutch? If it's not then you'll have to check your manual or buy a work manual to adjust it. It's usually not that hard. sorry buddy but this clutch it's not adjustable.which means you need a new clutch kit and have it replaced.
this sound come from the bearing of the clutch and it need to be replaced as soon as possible as happen in my C2
Haydraulic brakes cant be adjust, check your clutch master cylinder for leaks, also look where it comes thru firewall to clutch pedal for leaks, check slave cylinder for leaks, its bolted onto transmission with clutch line connected to it,if any of these parts leak, replace,if no leak is found, then you will need new clutch kit installed.
GO to www.LMCtruck.com & order there free parts Catalogs & (just) remove the heavy duty spring on the clutch assembly & R&R the bushing, but B careful...
I had the same problem in my 91 r/t. I found out my clutch and pressure plate were junk. But before you replace the clutch, there is an adjustment you can make under the dash on the clutch master cylinder. There is a lock nut that you loosen and turn the master cylinder shaft right or left. Its supposed to adjust your free travel on your clutch pedal. Try that first. ********************* Assuming your fluid levels are OK, another possibility is that your master cylinder is trashed. You can buy the seal kit to rebuild it yourself, or have a shop rebuild or replace it for you. When I had this problem, replacing both my master and slave cylinders solved the problem.atag
