if you mean the fuel cut off switch, its in the trunk.

On a 1998 Ford Taurus : The fuel pump shut off switch ( inertia switch ) is located in the trunk , on the passenger side , behind the trunk liner ( there is an access hole )

The trunk lamp should be just on the top of the interior trunk where the back dashboard is. It is activated when the trunk is opened engaging the sensor inside to initiate the light to turn on. You may also find all the information needed in the owners manual which can be located in the glove compartment.
It is not located in the trunk it is located under the hood.

There is a sensor that is damaged, bent, broken or missing for this. Much more rare and mostly on older cars the wiring could be damaged to the sensor.

The brake light failure sensor is located at the back of the left rear lamp assembly behind the trunk liner. It is a square circuit board about 2" x 2" connected by a wire pigtail to the main left rear brake and running lights.
