Might be the fuel filter? Fish around in the tank and see if you can retrieve a tube that will connect to it.
Check your fuel lines, they come out of there holes on the tank.
If the bulb is cracked or the line going to it is it will not work, also make sure the hose going to it is submerged in the fuel. another possibility is that the vent hose is plugged and the tank has too much vacuum pressure to allow the fuel to be sucked up.
Diagram showing where the lines from the fuel tank go at the carburetor and the primmer bulb.
drain the fuel, remove the fuel filter from inside the tank, remove the old fuel line from the filter, remove the old fuel line from the carb, pull old fuel line out, install new fuel line through the tank, reconnect fuel filter to new fuel line, place filter and slack line into tank, connect new fuel line to carb, refill tank, check for leaks.
Depends entirely on which craftsman lawn mower you're referring to.
Remove the fuel lines from both Ann's of the fuel filter. The lines can be removed by loosening the clamps. Reverse the process to install the new fuel filter.

its between the fuel tank, and carb. its round and about an inch long

I could assume this problem may lie in the pressure used on the primer bulb. Try steady, slower pressure on the bulb... . New info. Just was working on my neighbors unit. same problem. we thought it was dirt clogging carburator. cleaned every thing and blew air through everything. still no prime fuel to the carb. got looking around and all the fuel lines in the tank had disintegrated from setting in the garage for a few years with fuel in the system.
