It does not have a crank shaft sensor.
The crankshaft position sensor on a 97 GM Sonoma 2.2 engine is located on the lower right side of the engine. It is near the ignition control module.

If you mean the 3.2 litre V6,engine, no- 6VDI then it's Isuzu's Own engine and NOT a GM earlier type.
It is behind the atarter in the side of the engine block. Must remove starter to get to it.
It should be in the front of the engine, just behind the vibration dampener.
check the CKP sensor (crankshaft position sensor). It is usually used for injector triggering on 90's GM vehicles.

remove the front passenger wheel, remove the crank pulley, remove the crank sensor. you may need a GM special tool to remove certain bolts
should be on the block about 2/3 way down on the pass. side, or on top of the trans on the drivers side

Crankshaft sensor for the 96 olds 3.8 v/6 is behind the harmonic balancer mounted on a bracket. It is adjustable and must be set properly to avoid damage to the replacement. There is a clearance issue between the sensor and the blades attached to the back side of the harmonic balancer.
