If my memory is correct you need a distributor from a Chevy inline 6, a distributor drive gear from an AMC 360 V8, and plug wires from a Ford inline 6
the one inline with the coil in front to the left
all inline sixes are 153624, pull your number one plug out and bump the engine over until you hear/feel the compression stroke out of the plug hole, then pull the dist cap off and what ever plug the rotor is pointed at is number 1
To avoid confusion, replace spark plug wires one at a time. Ford Engines; 144,170,200,240,300 (6-Cylinder) Inline Firing Orders: 1-5-3-6-2-4 Distributor Rotation: Clockwise
On a 1993 Ford E-150 GASOLINE engine : Follow the spark plug wires to the distributor cap on top of the distributor On the 4.9 liter / 300 cubic inch inline six cylinder engine ( the distributor is on the DRIVERS SIDE of the engine ) On the V8 engines it is ( near the front of the engine on the top of the engine )
#1 on the distributor cap of a Dodge 360 faces to the front - inline with the center of the engine ( according to the picture in my Chilton repair manual )
On a 1984 Ford F-150 , 4.9 litre / 300 cubic inch inline six cylinder : The firing order is ( 1 - 5 - 3 - 6 - 2 - 4 ) The distributor rotor turns CLOCKWISE The marked # 1 position on the distributor cap faces AWAY from the engine The engine cylinder locations are numbered 1 to 6 , from FRONT to REAR
Actually , there isn't a distributor , it has a Coil On Plug ( C.O.P. ) ignition system
The distributor cap should have the number 1 marked on it. The distributor cap is installed with the # 1 position facing the engine , slightly towards the drivers side of the engine
There is an inline spout connector, kind of like a plug you would plug into the wall, that you have to disconnect before using timing light. This puts the engine in base timing. Set timing to specs and then plug inline spout connector back up.
On top of the distributor. Follow the spark plug wires. They lead to the distributor.
