Briggs usually puts the model type and code numbers either on the blower housing closest to spark plug, on a plate directly under the blower housing, on the top of the valve cover or sometimes on a plate attached to the blower housing. It kind of depends on the engine but if you look in those places chances are you'll find it
they are usually stamped in the flywheel blower housing or on the ohv valve cover or on a tag near the controls. the number is 5 or 6 digits possibly containing letters. the 4 numbers following that is the type
Depands on the engine. Older ones had it stamped into the blower housing above the spark plug or muffler. Newer ones had a tag rivetted to the top of the housing or stamped into the flange above the muffler.
It is always the first 2 numbers of the code number on Briggs and Stratton engines.

just bought a craftsman snow blower yesterday. 3 manufacturers, MTD, Briggs and Stratton and Husqvarna. was told MTD 357cc was chinese can`t even find a torque # for it, Briggs and Stratton 305cc and 342cc made in USA, they had no Husqvarna so i don`t know about motors. was told Briggs and Stratton were not only making the motors but the whole machine, on the Pro series i bought which has the Briggs motor, if you look on the chassis it says built in the USA. This information i was told at a Sears store. hope its correct.
It's under the hood, under the evaporator housing. Find the blower motor housing, almost dead center of the firewall. Follow the cable up and to the left. You'll have to remove the evaporator cover, and loosen the mounts for the fuses. The cable coming from the blower motor runs right past the resistor. The resistor faces up.

Look in a removable housing at the engine end of the upper radiator hose All modern (1990+) Subaru engines have the thermostat located in a housing at the bottom of the engine. Follow the lower radiator hose to find the housing. There are 2 bolts holding it on the engine block.
The blower resistor is located behind the glove box. You have to remove the glove box (easy; but its best to remove contents of glove box first), then locate the resistor plug located directly behind the glove box light, within the blower channel/housing/black plastic construct..?. or whatever you wanna call it. The wire for the plug should be visible, while the resistor itself resides within the blower housing.
