The belt on the USMC Service "A" uniform goes to the left. It goes through the left belt loop, around the back, through the right side, and, finally, looped throught the "buckle" section. It then buttons to the belt itself, and the removable loop slides over.

Ok...here we go. you should have a brass buckle, one hook, two smaller brass "keepers" and one 2" white belt. For starters the buckle goes on your right side. This will be obvious when You pick up Corporal, but its good to get in the habit now. 1:With the buckle face down, and slide the white belt into the bent-over tab with the hole. 2:slide one of the "keepers" down the end of the belt that just went through the hole. 3:fold the belt back over and run it back out the hole it came in. 4: repeat for the the hook side. Its pretty easy once you get the hang of it. If this doesnt help keep asking and Ill give you more detailed instructions later. Semper Fidelis Chestypuller
Are you talking about a military style belt buckle? One that the belt slides in behind the shiny face and over a pin that protrudes out the top and bottom but only leaves a "button" head to grasp? Also has an adjustment catch in the back that the other end of the belt goes through (the end without the shiny metal tab on it).
