The fuel filter should be an inline type. There is a clip on ache end. Pull the clips off and the filter can be removed. Be careful that fuel does not spray on you, as the fuel is under pressure.
The 1988 model has 2 fuel pumps. A low pressure fuel pump is located in the tank and a high pressure fuel pump is mounted to the frame on the driver's side, under the cab.
The fuel pressure should be 45 psi.
the pressure should be between 35 and 42 psi in the fuel rail. It has a valve like the one for air in the tires to measure the fuel pressure.... MOA.
there were no 5.3 in production in 1988; but on a small block Chevy in 1988 you should have 22-25 psi
The external fuel pump of an 1988 ford ranger 4*4 xlt is located inside the fuel tank or gas tank.
9 to 13 LBS ( PSI )
Either change fuel filter or fuel pump...
I BELIEVE that is 39 PSI
on my 1988 ford ranger (2.3L, 5sp), the fuel filter is behind the driver's front wheel on the inner side of the frame. it's kind of easy to find by following the fuel lines from the tank.
Have the fuel pressure checked should be about 40 I think but a GM dealership could tell you for sure also there should be a fuel pressure regulator
Fuel Pressure Regulator on 94 Ford Ranger/Mazda B2300 is on the front side of the fuel injector rail. It is round with a vacuum hose coming out its center. It is held into place with 2 bolts.
