It is a safety issue. The reason is that when you are using a wrench to disconnect the battery cable you can easily touch a portion of the car that is grounded. If you were disconnecting the positive + cable first and you accidently touch a metal part the vehicle you will create a massive short circuit with the fireworks involved. The wrench in your hand will become an arc welder. By disconnecting the negative - cable first there is no danger of this happening as touching a metal part of the vehicle will do nothing as you are already working with the ground. Always disconnect the ground cable first and then you can move to the positive cable without worries.
Connect the positive (+) Red cable from the charger to the positive (+) post of the battery. Now connect the negative (-) Black cable to a metal part of the engine. Do not connect to negative battery post. Plug the charger in. Unplug the charger before removing the cables. Disconnect the negative cable first.
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. 2. Disconnect the battery positive cable. 3. Remove the battery positive cable nut from the accessory wiring junction block. 4. Remove the battery cable from the starter motor BAT terminal. On the 2002 Venture, The positive battery terminal also supplies power to the circuit breaker and relay assembly located at the left corner of the engine compartment right over the battery. The battery cable for this vehicle is a "factory only" replacement part and is very expensive, in the neighborhood of $130.00 and tax. A perfectly satisfactory alternative is to use a generic battery cable of the right length connected from the battery to the starter motor, and a generic battery cable with ring terminals on both ends connected from the starter motor back to the circuit breaker/relay box. This alternative is an exact electrical equivalent of the factory part, works great, and saves a bunch of both time (ordering part) and money. Good luck!
Disconnect it from the Box under the battery, clip the zip-tie and lay it loose. Disconnect it from the Pedal. Back under the hood, remove the plug from the firewall and the cable will come right out. Very EASY, far more easy that finding the replacement part.
IT IS LOCATED ON THE INTAKE Because ECT (engine coolant temperature) sensor procedures vary depending upon their location, first locate the part. You may need to partially drain the engine coolant to prevent coolant spillage. * Disconnect the negative battery cable. * Unplug the ECT. * Then, unscrew it. * Reverse the removal procedures to install the new part. * Connect the negative battery cable to the battery.
Depending on engine the solenoid is located on the either the firewall or the starter. You can usually follow the neg. battery cable (black) to it. Be sure to disconnect battery when changing this part. It is in the starter.
both cables for 10 mins
If it has a mechanical speedo, take the negative battery cable loose first then take the spedo housing loose from the speedo first then pull the cable out of the housing. Then take the housing loose at the bottom and remove the part of the cable that is twisted off. Get a new cable and install it with lots of cable lubricant. Then hook up the botton end then the top end of the housing. Hook up the neg battery cable
The battery is in the trunk, same side as the gas cover door. First, you need to remove the covers (twist the plastic retainers (2x) 1/4 turn) remove the bar that keeps the battery down (2 screws) disconnect the negative terminal (easy) on the positive terminal, lift the red cover out of the way, and disconnect one set of cables. then lift up the other part of the red cover and loosen the screw to remove from the positive terminal. loosen the (long) screw that holds the battery down, it is closest to you. disconnect the venting tubing, on the far side of the battery Lift up the battery, making sure that you're not pulling/tugging on any wires (i had to disconnect one cable connection, but i might not have been necessary. just be careful) put in your new battery, and repeat everything in reverse.
Disconnect speedometer cable from back of speedometer gauge by twisting the threaded collar to unscrew. Then just slide the old cable out of cable housing and insert new one. If cable is broken you may need to disconnect cable from transmission tail shaft to remove part of the cable. Cable must be inserted into the gauge end of the cable housing.
Negative battery cable - a solid metal part of the engine
Connect the positive cable to the positive battery post on the donor car and on the Corvette. Connect the negative cable to some metal part of each vehicle, such as the engine. Be careful of the fan blades on each car. Let the donor car run for approximately 15 minutes to put a slight charge in the battery on the Corvette before you attempt to start it. Start the Corvette and as soon as it starts disconnect the battery cables.
