Answer
What does your owner's manual say? If you don't have one, then either get one and follow that schedule or, call a dealer and find out the correct change interval. If this is an interference engine, then serious engine damage will occur if it breaks the belt. Don't guess, find out for sure. If you cannot get a definitive answer, then replace it at 60,000 just to be safe.

The Haynes manual, and two online sources I've looked up say up to '96 change at 60K and '96 and newer 100K. To add to my confusion one source states it's an interference motor another that it isn't.

1999 and newer Chevy trackers don't have a timing belt, they have a timing chain and i was told by my mechanic that it shouldn't need changed at any specific mileage interval.
what is the timing specs for a 95 geo tracker
The timing chain is designed to last the life of the engine, there is no interval.
There is no timing belt. It is a chain driven cam and there is no change interval. They get changed when the engine is overhauled.
There is no "timing belt" There is also no camshaft nor any valves. The rotary engine does not use any of the above.
It has a Timing belt that should be changed regularly. If it fails, it can cause very expensive damage to the engine. 60-80K miles interval for change.
For the 6 cylinder engine - factory recommendation is 90,000 miles.
According to the Gates website ( they make timing belts etc. ) The 4.7 has a timing belt , recommended change interval 90,000 miles , and it is an interference engine
A timing chain is something that will normally last until the engine needs an overhaul. It is starts making a noise, or you cannot keep the engine timed, it may need replacing. Otherwise it is not an item you replace at a set interval.A timing chain is something that will normally last until the engine needs an overhaul. Yes, it has a chain that normally lasts the life of the engine and is only replaced when the engine is overhauled.
you should not need to change it, it is not like a belt that needs to be changed at a specific mileage, you might change it when you overhaul the engine.
