It's hard to beat the stock spindle size. You can go bigger but that will gear your spindle drive Go-Ped model to go faster. that sounds good but it take power to go faster so it will take a little longer to get to speed and your ability to climb hills gets restricted. Gear it to go too fast by putting a too big of spindle and the engine will not have enough power to get to top speed and you have a scooter that only bogs around with a gutless feal to it. You can also put a smaller sized spindle on it and gear it lower. Doing this will make it a powerful hill climber but it will not go as fast as stock at top speed.

You could go to your local auto parts store and purchase a thread repair kit the correct size you are looking for. The kit will supply you with directions and what you need to replace the damaged threads with an insert of correct size for aprox $20. All you should need is an electric drill and drill bits.
