SAE 10w30 is better for lower temp and SAE 20w40 is the opposite better hotter temps. Thanks
SAE 5w30 oil is an oil designed for cold and warm temperatures. It is basically a 5 weight oil when it is cold and becomes a 30 weight oil when it reaches full operating temperatures.
They can range greatly from 5W30 to 10W30 to 20W40 to 20W50, depending on the application, engine type, driving conditions. Best to check OEM specs
5w40 is a heavier weight oil at full operating temperatures, but are the same weight when cold.
5w20 is a little thinner at operating temps than 5w30
You can buy 20w40 oil. Mercursier, Yamalube, Amsoil, and other synthetic oils come in this weight. Or you could just use 10w40 if 20w40 is recommended.
Both behave the same when cold but the 5W30 is slightly more viscous at high (engine operating) temperature.
He 5w40 oil is a thicker oil at full operate temperatures than the 5W-30 oil.
The main difference is cold flow ability. The 5w30 will flow better when cover over the 10w30. Once operating temperature is achieved, they are virtually the same.
The main difference is that 5w20 is thinner at operating temperatures than 5w30. They both have similar cold flow ability.
best is 20w40 grade engine oil.
Mixing oil weights is a NO,NO.
