The ignition lock is where you put the key. The ignition switch is located on the top of the steering column directly above the brake pedal.

It engages and disengages the lock that starts the vehicle. There are 2 parts to the switch. The ignition switch and the lock assembly.
Easy change, simply use your hands, some tools, and skill. If your missing any of these then call a qualified technician I don't have my Haynes manual in front of me, but if memory serves, it contains instructions on how to change that switch. It's a good idea to have a manual for your car anyway.

Ignition switch and lock cylinder removal 1988 Dodge Ram 50.Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery.Remove the steering column cover to gain access to the ignition switch/lock cylinder.Using wire cutters, remove the cable band.Remove the bolts that hold the ignition switch/lock cylinder to the steering column.Unbolt and remove the key reminder switch and remove the switch lock cylinder from the steering column.
