The car will fully sink/go down on the tire with out the strut. When the car sinks down, it will sit on the tire which will immobilize the car.

What is the spanish word for car strut?

Remove Front Strut 1992 Buick La Saber?

under the hood there is a bolt on the strut tower do not take it off until you have the spring compressed outside the car. There should be three bolts that hole the strut bar if you have one on top of the strut tower. after you jack the car up you have to take the two bolts holding the spindle to the strut. i believe it is a 22mm head on the bolt and a 24 mm nut take the nut off then try hammering the bolt out after taking both bolts out the A arm can swing down. take the three nuts off under the hood and take the strut out from under the car. compress the spring with a spring compressor and remove the nut from the top of the strut. the whole spring should slide off then all you have to do is put it back together

How do you replace front coil spring ford escort 98?

To replace the strut you have to jack up the car on the side you want to do and take off the wheel. Then, take it loose from the strut tower on the top. There are 3 or 4 nuts. Then take it loose from the steering knuckle on the bottom. The whole strut assembly lifts out. To replace the coil you have to have a strut compressor. It compresses the coil spring so the top of the strut can come off. Once the top of the strut is exposed the coil can be taken off the strut.

What is the difference between a shock and a strut in a car?

A strut is a combination of a shock absorber and a coil spring

How do you change the shocks on a 1995 ford escort?

The front McPherson struts. The rears hardly ever need replacing. To change the strut you first jack up the car and put stands under it. Take the clip off holding the brake line to the strut. Move it aside. Then take the two bolts and nuts off the bottom of the strut. Then, take the 3 nuts off of the top of the strut from inside the engine bay. Life the strut out. Installation is the reverse of these steps. If you have this done you should have the front end aligned.

How do you remove and replace a front strut on 97 Nissan Sentra GXE?

Remove the bolt on the botton of the Strut. Detach the steering Knuckle. Remove the three nuts on top and remove the strut from the car. Do not try and disamble the strut without a spring compresor. Get a whole new strut. Good luck

How do you change the rear shocks on a 1988 mercury topaz?

This is a strut suspension. You have to remove the complete strut. Then you will need a spring compressor to release the coil spring. From there the shock can be changed. It would be cheaper to take the car to someone and have it done as the tool's needed will cost you.

Do you have to take the strut off to replace upper control arm on 96 thunderbird?

You do not have to remove the strut. You have to take the pressure off the spring. To do this put a jack under the lower control arm and lift until the spring compress's then under the hood on top of the strut is a nut remove the nut and then carefully and slowly let the jack down , this will relieve the pressure on the strut and spring alowing you to remove the control arm safely. And always use jack stands to support the car.

How do you change rear springs on a 2001 Taurus?

It's easier than it seems. First, disconnect the brake lines at the caliper or wheel cylinder on both sides. Then loosen the pinch bolts on both sides that tighten the hub assembly onto the bottom of the struts. Using a pry bar, stand on the bar and remove the hub assembly from the strut on both sides. Locate the top of the struts on either side inside the car under the window. You wil have to remove the upholstery that is directly below the window to locate the top of the strut. Remove the three nuts attaching the top of the strut to the body of the car. Once removing these, the strut will just fall away. Go back outside and guide the strut out of the wheel well. Once out of the car, you will have to remove the spring from the strut using a spring compressor. Since the springs are bad, probably the struts are bad also so the best idea is to buy "quickstruts" at your local auto parts store. These are a strut and spring combination ready to bolt into your car directly. It really is alot easier. Assembly is the reverse of removal. If the struts were recently changed, then use the spring compressor to shorten the length of the springs until they are loose in the struts, then remove the strut mount, but only when there is NO pressure from the spring on it or serious injury WILL result. Once you get the strut mounts removed from the struts, just take the the springs and the mounts and simply transfer them to the new struts and reassemble making SURE that the strut mounts are totally tight on the top of the strut shaft. Loosen the spring compressor until the springs are tight in the struts and you can safely remove the compressor. Then just remount this assembly into the car. Assembly is the reverse of removal. Good luck.
