A piston draws air into the cylinder through an intake port. The intake valve closes and the air/fuel mixture compresses as the piston moves back up. Once the mixture is fully compressed, it is ignited and explodes forcing the piston down (this is known as the power stroke). An exhaust valve opens and the burned gases are expelled out of the cylinder as the piston moves back up to complete its cycle.

This is different from a heart valve. A heart valve would be similar to a bicycle tire pump though. As the piston draws air into the air chamber, the valve opens to allow the air to fill the chamber. the piston then, changes direction and pushes that valve closed and opens another valve to allow the air to be pushed out the air line. The difference is in the valves. a bicycle pump uses check valves. Check valves allow flow in one direction.

If the output piston is a car hoist was replaced by a piston of twice the area what would happen to the output force?

If the output piston of a car hoist is replaced by a piston of twice the area, the output force would double. This is because the force exerted by a hydraulic system is directly proportional to the area of the piston. Since the new piston has twice the area, it would exert twice the force on the car lift.

Is piston slapping good for a race car?

NO! piston slapping is caused with the piston is to small for the cylinder wall and is smashing into the cylinder wall. this could damage or ruin your engine if you take care of it right away, especially a race car.

What is a pistol ring in a car used for?

You mean a piston ring. It seals the gap between the piston and the chamber in your engine

What do pistons move on in the car?

The bottom of the piston is connected to the crankshaft. This is what is moved by the piston. The top of the piston is a chamber in which gas is ignited to push the piston down. There are 4 cycles in most engines (like car engines.) If you want to know more, including specifics, go to: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Four-stroke_engine

What does a piston do in a combustion engine?

A piston is attached to a piston rod in a combustion engine. It compresses the air in the cylinder block and that air ignites when fuel is injected into the block, giving the car power.
