The hub bearings in a 1998 Z71 can not be repacked. The bearings are part of the hub, and the hub assembly will have to be replaced.
i am pretty sure the front bearings are part of the entire hub assembly. replacing the bearings requires replacing the enitre front hub. at least that's how it was on my 97 dualie.

They need to be pressed in. You will have to remove the hub assembly and have a shop press the bearings into the hub.
Both the front and rear bearings on a 1998 Cavalier are contained in the hub assembly. The rear hub is attached with four bolts, and the front with three.
You have to pull that whole assembly apart to get to the bearings. The wheel comes off, then the brake rotor, then you have the hub assembly. The bearings are inside of that.
Not sure if it is the same for your year, but most FWD cars have one piece Hub bearings for the front wheel.
are you talking about the front or back? the back bearings are a non serviceable part, the in order to change the bearings u need to change the hub, the front bearings can be separated, but chances are if you have to change your hub, bearings will have to be changed also, you will damage the bearings trying to remove them and put them back in, so my answer is yes. get the parts yourself from ecstuning.com and you will save alot of money over dealer or most shops.
