The cause of engine stutter could lead to several things. Fuel, air and spark.
But first connect your vehicle to a computer scanner to make sure it is not a faulty sensor causing all the problems.
Most of the time, a stuttering engine is due to something wrong with the fuel system. I.E.-- Fuel pump, filter, fuel pressure regulator or a short or open on a fuel injector.
Check vacuum using a vacuum gauge. And while you are checking the wires and plugs you might as well do a compression test as well.
You must also check the spark. Is your ignition coil good? how old is it? how are the conditions of the wires (outside and connecting ends) Many times a spark plug wire will look fine and new until you touch it and it gives you the shock of your life. Spark plugs should also be checked. While checking the spark plugs
do compression test. Low compression as well as a damaged harmonic balancer can cause stutter as well.
Does it stop stuttering when you accelerate. 9/10 times it is the fuel.
So remember to do it in this order so you can save time and money.
1-scanner
2-vacuum
3-fuel pressure etc...
4- wire connections as well as plugs.
There are several things that can cause your Jeep to stall while idling. The timing may be off or your fuel filter may be clogged.
If the car dies while idling, the timing might be off. Other causes can include a clogged fuel filter or a bad spark plug.
Is the AC turned on?
you are flooding the engine
Engine miss.
Engine bounce is a phenomenon where the engine speed rises rapidly and then drops back down while the vehicle is idling. This can be caused by issues with the fuel system, ignition system, or engine timing. It can lead to rough idling and poor engine performance.
it maybe just a timing problem
There can be many reasons why a car surges while idling. Some of these reasons are the computer could be dying, or the fuel injector are giving the engine too much gas.
Trans fluid is always checked with car level and idling while warmed up.
One of your belts may be loose or in need of belt dressing.
It could be many things. Try spraying brake cleaner on the back side of the engine where the intake manifold meets the cylinder head. If the gasket is bad the engine will mis fire or stumble.
It should be idling at approximately 625 rpm while the engine is warm.
