A sensor has failed, and is reporting the wrong value to the transmission controller.
Old transmissions: Probably the vacuum modulator or throttle position sensor. Also check the fluid level.
New Transmissions: Output speed sensor, turbine speed sensor, throttle-position sensor, fluid pressure sensor, and sensors on the engine.
If the 1997 Nissan Altima with an automatic transmission is shifting gears too early, it could be that the shift solenoid for the transmission is faulty. Both the shift solenoid and the speed sensor on the transmission should be checked.
They were manual transmission's Automatics did not really hit the scene until the late 1950s
The A4LD transmission is the most common failure on early explorers. It's very likely that your transmission is failing.
Dynaflow was the automatic transmission used in Buicks from the early 1940's until l966
Honda made a 450cc motorcycle in the early 1980's with an automatic transmission. I have one in excellent shape that I would like to sell. Are you interested? Contact me at ccs1601@cox.net
Depends if you have a manual or automatic. Manual transmission, no, there is no transmission computer. For an automatic transmission, the engine computer and transmission computer are one unit typically called an ECM, Engine control module. There are many different names for and ECM. Ford started using computer controlled transmissions in the early 90's and late 80's.
4L60E, more specifically the Early Model 4L60E, in 1999 gm introduced the Late model 4L60E, which had a redesigned case that is not compatible with the early model 4L60E
Example Sentences: Please repeat your last transmission. The telegraph was an early method for transmission of information over a long distance. The car had an automatic transmission. The transmission in my car is jammed and I can't get out of first gear. Coughing is a main source of transmission of the flu from one person to another. Immunization helps prevent transmission of disease.
There is NO difference. As long as there both the same KIND and are out of a truck.
Instead of manually shifting the gears, a synchronizer gear is installed in the transmission, and a computer takes over shifting. Early autoshifts still retained a clutch pedal; current models do not, leaving that to the computer to manage, as well. The only one which has a torque converter is the Allison TC10.
You need to drain the transmission to see what fluid it has. In the late 80's and early 90's Isuzu put either Gear lube or Automatic transmission fluid in the 5 speed transmissions.
The Honda Odyssey van automatic transmission is rated as one of the worst lemon problems in the history of the automotive industry. A senior Honda technician told me there was at least one year in the early 2000's where not a single van made 100,000 on its original transmission. Every year since the inception of the Odussey, Honda claimed they fixed this problem. Lates attempt? Unknown if it is fixed.
