The car tend to sputter as the engine RPM's climb due to lack of fuel. Sooner or later the engine will not be able to run for the same reason. It will get worse until you replace the fuel filter. A plugged fuel filter will cause the fuel pump to over work and in time burn it out. Think about sucking air in through a straw. If you jammed a pea in the middle(simulating a plugged filter) It would be difficult to suck air in. It can cause a rough run, stalling , no start typically.
