If the battery is fully charged and the starter is working properly it will turn over and start. The alternators sole purpose is to supply voltage to the vehicle and battery when the engine is running. When the engine is not running the alternator has nothing to do with starting the engine. If the alternator went bad and the battery was discharged then you will have to charge the battery before it will be able to start the engine. Do not jump start the engine with a dead battery if you can avoid it. This puts a strain on the alternator trying to recharge a dead battery and can damage the alternator, even a new one.
The alternator, or stator, is behind the pull-start cover on the right side of the engine.
Check if the alternator's working.
start by taking off the passager side tire unscrew the inner wheel well alternator should sit right in front of you (2) 15mm bolts and (1) 10 mm bolt. good luck
Alternator fails to supply power.
usualy if the alternator is not defective then its the battery. you should start by cleaning the battery post. then you could check the terminal wire that runs from the battery post to the alternator. if thats not it you should check the ground on the alternator.
Connect a voltmeter to the alternator and start the engine. An automotive alternator should read aprox 14.5 Volts when it's running and the battery is fully charged.
You should check the starter and alternator.
It may not be connected right.
Clearly there is something wrong with the car besides a bad alternator fuse. Without more information I cannot hazard a guess. But you may want to check the charging system overall to see that it is working correctly. That will include the battery and alternator.
Very possibly. If the alternator is locked up (shot) it will burn the belt off of it in seconds. If the alternator has no belt on it chances are this is why. I hope this helps you. Mark
start the car, let it run for about 10 to 20 minutes then disconect the batery, the car should stay on (for a few minutes ofcourse) if it dies right away then the alternator is bad Other posts on other sites say this is NOT to be done or serious damage can occur. Do it at your peril.
