Hello,
I'm not much of an expert so to say, not ASE certified or anything, somewhat of a shade tree mechanic and have been a trucker for around 10 years though. I've found that diesel fuel is more environmentally friendly than gasoline as diesel burns 98-99% clean even if you do see smoke. The smoke isn't as bad for the environment as it looks. Diesel is also the leftovers from the other fuels and really cheaper to make, but the need for it is allowing it to be overpriced. I hope that helps you, I don't really have links for you, but that is what I have been told from several people throughout my career from knowledgable people.
The most common fuel used is Bunker C / #6 fuel oil because of it's cheapness. However, it is not as good for the environment as Marine Diesel. Marine Diesel is also several times more expensive. This is why it in not used in ships.
Using a Diesel fuel conditioner would be good for your engine and would not be bad at all.
Diesel, if you can believe it, with all the soot it makes... Diesel has a significantly lower number of certain carbons in it that harm the environment.
Its far better for the environment.
not a good idea.
Diesel
Generally speaking, modern diesel engines are far much better for the environment than standard gasoline engines. The process by which diesel fuel is burned leaves much less harmful emissions into the atmosphere.
Diesel engines run on diesel fuel. Gasoline will destroy a diesel engine.
Diesel fuel itself is not harmful to the enviorment,it is the emissions created by vehicls that causs the damage. Generally speaking diesell fueled vehicles get better MPG's and are in turn better for the enviorment.
Short of re-refining it there is no good way to break the long molecules of motor oil into the size that makes diesel fuel. You can add small amounts of motor oil to diesel fuel and it will burn but it is not recommended.
They get great fuel economy. Diesel vehicles get 20 to 30 percent better gas milleage. A well maintained Diesel Engine is known to last a very long time. They are better for the environment because they burn less fuel.
PPM in diesel refers to "parts per million" and typically represents the concentration of sulfur compounds in the fuel. The lower the PPM value, the cleaner the diesel fuel and the environment. Regulations often set limits on the sulfur content in diesel fuel to reduce emissions and environmental impact.
