If I am not mistake Mountfield uses Briggs & Stratton engine on it's mowers. Briggs & Stratton recommends you use SAE 30 weight in the summer and SAE 10w30 if you use the mower in cool temperatures. I personally recommend you use a quality Synthetic oil in any air cooled engine and change it once each year unless you mow commercially. In that case change it every 50 hours.
Generally, 30W of SG or higher rating.
For 1990's model vehicles, one will need 3.8 quarts of oil for an oil change. For newer models, one will need 4.5 quarts of oil.
