You can test the fuel pump by touching the positive wire on the positive post of the battery. You will need to ground the ground wire.
Turn the ignition on and see if you hear a humming coming from the pump. If it is inside the fuel tank, you can hear it from the back seat.
This is not a safe way to test a fuel pump. Simply test the pump with a fuel pressure gauge while it is still in the vehicle. If you go to all the trouble of dropping the fuel tank and removing the pump then just replace it.
The fuel pump is located on the top of the fuel tank. The sending unit and fuel pump are one unit. Test access to wiring can be gained by an access cover under the lower back seat. Pump can only be changed by droping the tank. Hope this helps!
You can try hitting the gas tank. When mine was going out, hitting the gas tank would jar the fuel pump enough to get it working again, but only temporarily. If this works, you know the fuel pump is going.
It depends what you were testing.
Unfortunetly the fuel pump is in the fuel tank, you need to remove the tank and drain it to get to the pump, it is best done by a machanic.
Its not your fuel Pump that shows this its your sending unit which is attached to the fuel pump and located in the Gas tank. It could be a couple of things. One the float in the tank is stuck, the sending unit is defective or the wiring is loose or disconnected. Best way to test is to remove it from the tank. This will require removing the tank. If you cant do this take it to a garage.
Fuel pump pressure test.
Its Located In The Fuel Tank. Recommend You Let A Garrage Test And Change This. Good Luck
it is most likely the fuel pump when you run the car out of gas it sucks up all the grime and crap from the bottom of the tank and clogs the pre filter on the bottom of the pump and burns up the pump those are high pressure pumps and are quite finicky as well as expensive to test it jump the fuel pump test lead to the positive terminal of the battery and listen for the fuel pump running in the tank if you hear nothing the pump is shot
Fuel pressure test at the fuel rail.
