If you look on the serp belt routing diagram, you will see a belt tentioner pointed out. Adjust the tentioner so that the belt loosens, and remove it. Disconnect battery. At this point, remove the wires from the back of the alt. As I remember, there are three bolts, 1 10mm, and 2 13mm. (This memory is from a '97 w/3.2 v6 4x4) Remove bolts. The parts store will charge a core if you do not bring the old alt in with you when you purchase the new one, plus, it's easier to compare the two if you have the old one with you. Also, this is a good time to replace the serp belt since you allready have it off the vehicle. Often, alt problems damage battery cells, so that might need replaced as well. Install new alt, reattach wiring, reinstall belt keeping in mind the diagram. If there is not one on your vehicle, it is easily found on the web. Reconnect battery. Mechanical skill needed to accomplish this, scale 1-5, 5 being most difficult, 2. Most novice mechanics can complete this task in under one hour. Tip...do not over torque the nuts on the back of alt for power and ground wiring. 1/2 turn past finger tight is sufficient. Good luck!
