You have to remove the rear shelf, the rear speaker covers are attached to the shelf. You can see the connectors underneath from inside the trunk. Be carefull not to scratch your defroster lines in your back window when removing the shelf. You may need only pop up the front portion to access the speakers without compeletly removing the shelf. Removing the backseat if its a non LSi model might help.
You will need to remove the covers from your 1996 Integra rear speakers. Remove the speaker retaining screws. Remove the wiring harness from the back of the speakers.

It's only about an hour job.there are several "clips" holding the carpet down behind the rear seats. they can be accessed through the trunk and then the whole piece will lift out and the speakers can be removed.
