Behind the dash, on the headlight switch itself, there is a "pin" that you have to push in in order to pull out the light knob. Feel under the dash, the pin is toward the back of the switch. When you push it in, with your other hand, move the light knob in and out. It will come out. Then, you can remove the nut, take the switch out from behind the dash.
mine is a 87 goes like this remove pannel............n git to switch .pull knob to on position..thare is a lil button on side of switch....press n hold pull knob out..........helli
There is a small button on the back of the switch you need to hold down while pulling out the shaft and the attached knob. Then, you can remove the slotted nut freeing the switch.
Unplug switch. On top of switch you will find a small spring loaded metal button. While pushing down on button, pull out on head light switch knob. Knob should now come out of switch. [ headlights will come on, you might want to disconnect battery] Now remove round nut on front of dash. After replacing switch, just push headlight knob into new switch [no need to push metal button].
It's tight, but it just pulls off... With some effort.
Reach under the dash at the switch. There is a small button on the side of the switch, push it in and remove the light switch knob. The switch is fastened to the dash by the round nut with a slot on each side of it.
Just found out this one today. After removing the 4- 1/4 head screws loosening the gauges pull out the panel with the light switch. Towards the back of the switch on the bottom, is a little spring loaded button. Turning the knob c-clockwise to the dome light on position, push on the button and the light switch knob/rod assembly will come out. Then unscrew the bezel to remove the switch from the trim panel and 3 screws for the main panel. I do not know how much effort or if it can be done to remove the knob/rod assembly while the switch, gauges and panel are in place. Eric Stanley Services
Pull the knob out. There is a small slot in the side of the knob. Put a small flat blade screwdriver in the slot and pull the knob out. The screwdriver will release a clip and the knob will come off.
Behind the dash panel on the light switch that the knob goes into, look (feel) for a small release button on the bottom of the switch. Push the lights all the way in (off) and press and hold the button while pulling the knob out. the knob and the shaft both should come out as a unit. Reinstallation is easier, simply push the knob into the hole.
On the back side of the light switch, where the knob comes out, there is a place on the switch to depress with a small pointed object or small screw driver, press it in and at the same time, pull on the knob and it should slide right out, this requires looking under the dash to locate the back side of the headlight switch and finding the depress tab.
You need to pull out the light switch like you were turning on the headlights. Then depress the spring loaded rivet on the metal side of the switche to unlock the knob shaft and at the same time pull on the knob. Once the knob and shaft are removed from the switch, there is a spanner nut that screws through the dash and into the switch. It is a normally threaded nut, but made of aluminum so it kind of galls up a little when you remove it. Once the spanner nut is removed, you can remove the switch from the dash and remove the wires.
i have a 74 p/u. i think yours is the same. the way to remove the switch on mine is to pull the knob all the way out ( switch the headlights on.) Then reach to the back of the switch and push a little thingie with a spring up, then pull the knob out of the switch. Now I think yours is the same as mine & I have a 1970 C10 and on mine what you have to do is pull the knob out like you are turning on your lights then rotate the knob until you see the little screw on the knob it self, loosen up that screw and the knob is off. Then to take the switch off the dash, loosen up the little dash knob bezel then take your dash off then there is another nut you have to take off before you can take the head light switch out.
