For Dodge Dakota years 1987 to 1996: The vehicle must be on level ground with full fuel tank and all tire pressures checked and adjusted as necessary. Bounce the front bumper up and down a few times (at least 4 inches) to settle the suspension. Measure the distance between the bottom of the inner pivot of the lower control arm and the floor. Then measure the distance between the bottom of the outer end of the arm, just inside the steering stop, and the floor. The difference should be 1.25 inches. Do this for both sides of the vehicle. Make adjustments by turning the adjusting bolt located at the rear end of the torsion bar. After each adjustment, bounce the front bumper as before and recheck the measurements. Both sides must always be checked. The final adjustment must always be in the 'up' direction. The height of the front of the vehicle should be within 1/4 inch of specifications and should not vary by more than 1/4 inch side to side. The above info was paraphrased referencing a Haynes Repair Manual for Dodge Dakota Trucks 1987 - 1996.
