Have you replaced the thermostat? On my 92' B250 I had to remove the Alternator and I think the A/C compressor. to properly remove and clean the housing. Also just recently I had to replace the radiator cap.
On my 92 B250, the voltage regulator is integrated right into the alternator. The engine computer is the voltage regulator on a 1989 Dodge Ram Van.

Remove the belt from your 1994 Chevy Astro Van 4.3 liter engine alternator. Remove the wiring harness from the back of the alternator. Remove the alternator retaining bolts. Reverse the process to install the new alternator.

on my van there are two coolant sensors. both are on either side of the thremostat housing. i had to remove the alternator to get to the one that operates the gauge. it was on the passe3nger side of the thermostat housing. the other is on the drive's side and operates the ecm. i had to revmove the airconditioning unit just to see it.
