For most cars the air conditioning is powered by a belt from the engine and even if the car is only idling it will be running without any meaningful effect on the car's battery.

For some hybrid drive cars the air conditioning is powered electrically, so that it can work even with the engine off. These will drain the car's battery some, but the air conditioning controller will automatically turn off the air conditioning before this becomes a problem then turn it back on as soon as the engine is automatically restarted when it is again needed to drive the car.

Does a car have to be moving to charge the battery?

No , for the battery to be charged the engine must be running . This means that your alternator , if it's functioning properly , is charging the car's battery as the engine is on/running .

Should your car stay running when you take the pos battery termanal off?

A battery is used to start a car. Once it is running, the alternator then supplies electrical energy to charge the battery as well as power the electrical systems in the car. Removing the battery while the car is running will not affect the running of the car.

Will a car battery recharge if the car is on but not moving?

yes the engine runs the charger/alternator as long as the engine is running the battery should be chargeing

Can any alternator in existence charge the battery while the car is off and not moving for any length of time - is this at all possible?

If the car battery dies because the door was left ajar will just boosting the battery and running the car be enough or do you need a new battery?

It should come back after running the engine if the battery is good.

Can you charge a dead battery by getting a second car that is running take the good battery out of the running car and put the dead battery into the running car as a means of charging it?

No, this will place a very heavy load on the alternator of the car and may result in burning out the diodes of the car charging the battery. You could easily ruin the alternator. Purchase a battery charger and charge the dead battery with that. Alternators are not made to charge dead batteries.

Does an alternator charge a battery while the car is not running?

No , just when the engine is running

If the battery is going out will the alternator still power the car?

the battery job is to start the car so the alternator will kick in after the car is running

Can you charge a dead car battery that is disconnected from the car with another running car?

Can a cigarette lighter drain the car battery if the car is on?

If the car is on (Ignition is on, engine is running) then no. Nothing should drain the battery when the car is running, there is a device called an alternator with a belt that usually goes around the crankshaft that transforms the mechanical energy into electrical energy. As long as you have the car running, the battery should not die. If so, you have a mechanical problem.
