If you have the wrong size battery in a Cadillac with the northstar will it effect the alternator voltage?
No, not unless you installed a 6 volt battery instead of a 12 volt battery.
either alternator or wrong size battery
first unhook the battery, then release the automatic belt tensioner and remove the belt, then unbolt the alternator and disconnect the wiring from the alternator....to reinstall, reverse the removal procedure
You should be able to use any brand of battery the only thing that matter is where the battery posts are and the size of the battery.
Alternator output fuse or fusible link under the hood, I can't believe the people that don't state make, model, year and engine size before posting a question.
No. As long as the battery is a 12 volt battery the physical size of the battery does not matter. It can have 300 CCA or 600 CCA. It will still start the engine and will not damage the starter. The reason there are different sizes is so the fit in the battery space snugly and the battery post are oriented properly.
your question makes no sense, clocking is the position of the plug, not related to the size of the plug or type of connector.
A larger voltage rating: yes, of course. A larger size rating: these are not normally related to the voltage rating, which is separate. A larger physical size: normally this means a greater voltage, but again, they are not directly related to the voltage rating. Size has nothing to do with voltage. Battery voltage is controlled by the number of cells in the battery. Plate size affects current delivery.
You need to check and make sure the alternator is charging. You could have gotten a defective one or if you got a used one it may be bad. Get a digital multimeter and with the vehicle off check the voltage at the battery. Should be 12+ volts with a charged battery. Start the vehicle and check the voltage again, should be 13-14 volts or better. If no voltage increase check the big output terminal (thick red wire usually going to it) at the alternator and see it the alternator is putting out voltage. If no voltage other than battery voltage then the alternator is not working. This is assuming that the alternator has an internal voltage regulator (most now do). Without year/make/model/engine size it's very hard to give you decent direction other that generic help :-) **I am assuming you have tested the battery**
?? I can't believe the people that don't state make, model, year and engine size before posting a question.
The alternator retaining bolt size is 9/16. The alternator bolts will be three inches long. The alternator tensioner bolt is 9/16 by one inch.
