it depends: do you want better gas mileage or more power? (disclaimer: most newer engine/vehicle combos have plenty enough power if regularly maintained--even lower horsepower/torque engines--for "regular" driving, unless you're carrying heavy stuff, which includes a car full of full-size people, or you like seeing black stripes on the road in your rear view mirror.) so if gas mileage is #1 then low is high, and high is low. if power is more important, then low is low, and high is high. translation: low cc is a smaller engine, so better gas mileage/less power; high cc is a larger engine, so worse gas mileage/more power. the gas mileage/power data is "typically" or "in general." you really have to look at different vehicles and different engine/transmission options, and then make a decision based on mileage, power, feel, sound, reliability, warranty. so, drive cars, talk to people, and look up some data. good luck with the car hunt.
