You local dealer can use the VIN to get the sales codes and then can tell ratio, etc from there.
2.833 is the rear-end gear ratio
It will be the same as the rear axle. Or take the VIN to the dealer, it is coded into the VIN number.
They can be a tenth off.
Differential, with 10.25 ring gear Rear..........7.4 pints Differential, with 8.8 or 9 ring gear Rear..........5.5 pints Differential, Dana 70 HD Rear..........7.4 pints Differential, Dana 60, 61 Rear..........5.9 pints Differential, Dana 70 EX HD Rear..........6.5 pints Differential, Dana 80 Rear..........8.4 pints This link should help if you Identify which you have if you don't already know. http://www.drivetrain.com/rearend.html Hope This Helps.
There are no "grease" points on the rear axle. The gear oil is checked and filled through the plug in the differential cover. There are no "grease" points on the rear axle. The gear oil is checked and filled through the plug in the differential cover.
The differential, often referred to as the "rear", is the gear housing which transmits the rotation of the driveshaft to the rear wheels. A four-wheel drive truck also has a differential for the front wheels.
Broken gears. The differential or ring gear or pinion gears are broken.
The best way is to count the teeth on the ring gear and divide by the number of teeth on the pinion gear. Or you can count the number of turns of the pinion it takes to get one full turn of the ring gear. For example, if we divide a ring gear with 41 teeth by a pinion gear with 10 teeth we find that the gear ratio is 4.10:1 (41/10 = 4.10).
Vehicles with front wheel drive have a straight rear axle meaning there is no gear housing in the rear axle. Vehicles that are rear wheel drive have a gear box in the middle of the rear axle to change the rotation of a drive shaft to turn the rear axle. If you look under a full size pick up truck rear axle you will see a large gear box (typically referred to as a pumpkin) in the middle area of the axle. That is the gear box differential.
the angle gear is also known as the rear differential. Hope this helps.
