If it has a 4-speed transmission, it has 2 speed sensors, one for input speed and one for output speed, located on the front of the transmission. If it has a 3-speed transmission, it is located under the vehicle on the back of the transmission, where the passenger side CV axle goes in, to the left of the inner joint.
hi the speed sensor on a 96 caravan is located right under the air filter and on the transmission to replace it you just need to remove the air filterand you will see it on top of the tranny.

Next to where the upper radiator hose comes out of the engine.
No
The speed sensor sends a signal to the speedometer to show the correct speed and it sends a signal to the transmission telling when to shift. If the speed sensor is bad the speedometer will not work and the transmission will not shift correctly.
NoNo
replace spedo cable. I don't think the 96 Caravan has a cable. It has an electronic sensor but others said replaceing the sensor doesn't solve the problem.
what are timing marks for a 96 3.0 dodge caravan please?
Your transmission has a pin type connector. A switch to spade connectors was made in the later 1999 model Caravan. Thus, a '96, '97 or '98 trannie will fit your 1998 3.0 Caravan. Pre-96 bolted up differently, so anything older will not work.
Yes
If both are 3.3 yes they will swap.
after the 96 model year dodge quit using them
