J.K. Rowling used her initials instead of her real name, Joanne Rowling, at the suggestion of her publisher to appeal to a wider audience, particularly young boys. Using initials was believed to make her books more gender-neutral and increase their chances of success in the male-dominated fantasy genre.
In July 2013, it was revealed that J.K. Rowling had released a book under the name Robert Galbraith.
Her exact reasons for writing under the pseudonym are unknown, but it has something to do with not being under pressure. The Harry Potter books were so popular that any book released with her name would be heavily critiqued and, not matter how many differences there were, compared to her previous work.
Perhaps she just wanted to enjoying writing without the pressure of being J.K. Rowling.

She has no middle name. Although she writes under the pen name "J. K. Rowling", pronounced rolling ,she actually has no middle name, hence her full name when her first Harry Potter book was published was simply "Joanne Rowling".

The full name on her birth certificate is Joanne Rowling. Her real name has no "K". She only added it because her publisher thought she needed another initial. When people ask her about the K, she says it stands for "Kathleen", which was her paternal grandmother's name.Nowadays she is Mrs Murray, and her friends call her Jo.

Marshal Mathers. Eminem is his initials spelt out!
Joanne Rowling. Kathleen isn't her middle name she just had to chose another initial and she chose K for Kathleen after her grandmother. She thought young boys would be turned off by a book made by a women, so with those two initials you wouldn't be able to tell. True story, I read it in a biography on JK Rowling.
Moaning Myrtle's real name is Myrtle Elizabeth Warren. This wasn't revealed in the books, but by J.K. Rowling on her Twitter account.
