In the book "Woods Runner," the dogs helped Abner, Samuel, and Annie by alerting them to danger and providing protection in the wilderness. They were also skilled hunters and helped with tracking game for food.
Mentioned in the Book of Samuel, Abner was King Saul's cousin and commander of his army (1 Samuel 14:50, 20:25). After Saul's death, Abner made Ish-Bosheth king over Israel, while David reigned concurrently over the tribe of Judah at Hebron. Abner later switched to the side of David and granted him control over the tribe of Benjamin. King David's nephew Joab slew Abner at the gate of Hebron, perhaps to avenge Asahel, whom Abner had killed. David had Abner buried in Hebron (2 Samuel 3:31-39). His tomb, according to tradition, is not far from the Cave of Machpelah.

The 2nd book of Samuel is in the Old Testament before the 1st and 2nd book of Kings. Also, of course the 2nd book of Samuel is after the 1st book of Samuel, and the 1st book of Samuel is after the book of Ruth.
Chapter 16, the travelers reach the shore of the Hudson River in New Jersey, across from New York City. The muddy bank of the river is crowded with men and boats, and Abner takes them to a friend named Matthew who will take Samuel and Abner across to the city. Annie is made to stay behind with Matthew's men, although she makes Samuel promise to return. Matthew lets Abner and Samuel out on the New York side. He tells them he will return every night at midnight for three days, but if they do not return he will assume they have been caught or killed. He tells Abner he will take care of Annie if this happens. Samuel is amazed at the busy city, where red-coated British soldiers seem to be everywhere, treating the civilians roughly. They are stopped by a soldier and Abner tells him they are on...
Samuel did not write the book of Ruth.
